Dr. Lindsay Stewart is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She previously served as Clinical Director for Nova Southeastern University (NSU)'s Anxiety Treatment Center, where she trained graduate students in the provision of evidence-based treatments for Anxiety Disorders and OCD.
Dr. Stewart graduated with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Upon returning home to South Florida, she completed her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Stewart's research and clinical training focused on the treatment of anxiety, OCD, depression, and trauma-related conditions. Dr. Stewart provided therapy to children at NSU's Child and Adolescent Traumatic Stress Program and completed an APA-accredited, pre-doctoral internship at NSU's Trauma Resolution and Integration Program, which provides psychological services to adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma, as well as single-incident traumas (i.e., assaults, violent crimes) and domestic violence. In these settings, Dr. Stewart gained expertise conducting Contextual Therapy for Trauma, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dr. Stewart's training also included a specialization in psychological and psychoeducational testing. At Nicklaus Children's Hospital (formerly, Miami Children’s Hospital), she conducted evaluations of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems, developmental delays, complex medical problems, and learning issues. Outside of the hospital, she conducted psychological assessments and parenting competency evaluations of individuals involved in Family and Dependency Court, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Children and Families.
Following completion of her doctoral degree, Dr. Stewart completed a specialized two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the University of Miami's (UM) Child and Adolescent Mood and Anxiety Treatment Program and the UM's Psychological Services Center, Anxiety Program. At UM, Dr. Stewart provided individual, group, and intensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to children and adults with anxiety and depressive disorders. She also served as a therapist on grant-funded research projects, including the development of the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents. She gained particular expertise conducting Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the treatment of choice for OCD, often providing intensive outpatient services to children and adults. Dr. Stewart later served as supervisor for UM's Psychology Graduate Program, where she trained graduate students to assess and treat Anxiety Disorders (social anxiety, panic, excessive worry), OCD and related conditions in children and adults.
For almost fifteen years, Dr. Stewart has worked in private practice in South Florida specializing in the provision of evidence-based treatment for social anxiety, panic, OCD, excessive worry, depression, and trauma-related issues. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Transdiagnostic CBT Treatment (via the Unified Protocols), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to help clients achieve wellness. She has also completed specialized training through the International OCD Foundation's Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) to treat childhood (pediatric) OCD.
Dr. Stewart is a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the National Registrar of Health Service Psychologists, and the International OCD Foundation. Dr. Stewart is also a founding member and current secretary of OCD Central and South Florida, a regional affiliate of the International OCD Foundation.
