Concierge Psychology
In today's fast-paced world, many people and families are looking for specialized care that does not require taking time out of busy schedules for office visits. And for many individuals, traditional in-office appointments do not provide a preferred level of discretion. To accommodate your needs, Dr. Stewart provides concierge therapy via in-home sessions or videoconference sessions for certain conditions. Please contact Dr. Stewart's office for more information.
Intake Assessment
The initial appointment for therapy involves an in-person meeting in Dr. Stewart's Fort Lauderdale office, or virtually. During this first meeting, Dr. Stewart asks many questions to get to know you (or your child) and learn about the issues you are facing. She will help you determine your goals and assess current areas of strength. Clients have ample opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback. At the end of the intake appointment, Dr. Stewart will provide you with some initial impressions and suggestions for a comprehensive treatment plan. Your input in this process is essential and these initial meetings tend to be very collaborative in nature.
Individual Therapy for Children, Teens, and Adults
Individual therapy is the appropriate treatment modality for many different presenting problems and involves one-on-one meetings with a therapist. While such meetings may take place in the office, they may also take place in your home, office, or school. Family members or significant others may be included in these sessions, if appropriate. Sessions typically occur once per week initially, and may decrease in frequency over time as you begin to accomplish your goals.
Intensive Treatment
Research has shown that intensive treatment can be beneficial for certain conditions including OCD, Social Anxiety, and Panic Disorder. Intensive treatment involves more frequent meetings with the therapist, and these sessions are typically of longer duration than individual therapy sessions. These sessions may also be conducted in your home, school, or other settings around South Florida, if appropriate. Intensive treatment may be a good option for those people who do not have access to specialized Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) therapists in their area.
Parenting Challenges
Dr. Stewart frequently works with parents of young children, adolescents, and young adults to help them become "the parents they want to be". Dr. Stewart helps parents identify their parenting goals, such as fostering children's independence, flexibility, and responsibility. She helps parents learn to balance empathy and support with creating structure, boundaries, and appropriate consequences. These sessions can be particularly helpful when a child is struggling with anxiety, OCD, or behavioral problems, or when parents differ in their parenting styles.
Family Therapy
Family therapy can be effective in helping families experiencing adjustment issues (i.e., separation, divorce). It can also be used to help strengthen family relationships and clarify roles and boundaries within a family.
Psychological and Psychoeducational Assessments
Dr. Stewart is not currently providing psychological or psychoeducational assessments. She is happy to provide you with referrals to colleagues who specialize in these types of evaluations.
